Breaking into Cyber Security: Anmol’s Success Story

Here’s how Anmol, a complete fresher, landed a job as an Associate System Engineer at CGI after completing his cyber security course from SKILLOGIC:

Q1: What inspired you to pursue a career in cyber security?

While I was in my third year of engineering (Information Science), I stumbled upon the concept of cyber security. I did some online research, explored the tools and techniques involved, and got instantly hooked, especially with ethical hacking. It looked exciting and hands-on, and I love experimenting with tools like Burp Suite. That’s what pulled me into this field.

Q2: Did you start learning cyber security during college or after graduation?

I completed my graduation in June 2024. After that, in July, I decided to officially pursue a cyber security course. That’s when I began exploring training institutes seriously.

Q3: How did you choose SKILLOGIC for your cyber security training?

I live in Bangalore, so I explored several local institutes. SKILLOGIC in Bangalore stood out due to its strong course structure, experienced trainers, and positive student feedback. I spoke with a representative who explained the facilities and convinced me it was worth the investment. And yes, it truly paid off.

Q4: What was your initial learning experience like at SKILLOGIC?

At first, it was overwhelming since I had no background in cyber security. But the trainers, Fatima ma’am and Abbas, were excellent. They started from scratch, especially in networking and ethical hacking, and gradually moved to advanced topics. We learned over 50 tools throughout the course and had lots of hands-on practice.

Q5: Was the training mostly theory or practical?

It was a good mix. I took the online course, which ran from 2 PM to 4 PM daily. The first half focused on theory, and the second half was fully practical. We got to work with real tools and scenarios. Plus, any doubts were resolved instantly through screen sharing or chat.

Q6: How was the quality of the trainers and the overall training experience?

Amazing! Since I started with zero knowledge, I really appreciated how the trainers built up my understanding from the ground level. They made even complex topics approachable and supported me every step of the way.

Q7: Did you spend time practicing outside class hours?

Yes! I used to spend about two extra hours a day revising and exploring more advanced topics on my own. That personal practice helped a lot in reinforcing what we learned in class.

Q8: What happened when you hit a roadblock during practice?

That happened quite a few times! Whenever I got stuck, I’d contact Fatima ma’am. She’d immediately offer help, sometimes through a screen share, and make sure my doubts were cleared then and there.

Q9: What were your projects and internship experiences like?

The projects were hands-on and really helped me master various tools. During the internship phase, I explored advanced hacking tools and deepened my knowledge even more. It felt like a real-world experience.

Q10: How did your job search go after the course?

The placement assistance team at SKILLOGIC was a huge help. They helped me format my resume, guided me on how to present myself, and supported me during mock interviews. I primarily searched through LinkedIn and other job portals.

Q11: Did you face any rejections? What did you learn from them?

Yes, I faced multiple rejections. The key learning was that communication skills are as important as technical knowledge. I realized I wasn’t explaining my thoughts clearly during interviews. So I practiced a lot, especially speaking in front of a mirror, to improve.

Q12: What changed in your successful interview with CGI?

By then, I had practiced both technical and communication skills. The interview had four rounds: a telephonic call, two technical rounds, and an HR round, all conducted online. They tested my resume-based skills and scenario-based problem-solving. I was much more confident by then.

Q13: Is the daily learning curve very intense?

Not really. It’s manageable if you stay consistent. I spent two hours after class each day, and that made a big difference. You don’t need to study for 8 hours, just focused, regular effort.

Q14: How would you rate SKILLOGIC as a cyber security institute?

Personally, I’d rate it very highly. SKILLOGIC gave me everything I needed, solid training, excellent trainers, practical learning, and great placement support. I’m not promoting them, just sharing my honest experience.
