Since I was interested in both fields, I initially enrolled in courses related to AI and cyber security. Although I received a placement opportunity, I decided not to accept the offer due to personal reasons. Q2: What inspired you to choose cyber security as a career?

Urmil Jagat: During my engineering studies, my primary interests were software engineering and artificial intelligence. However, I became curious about networking, how the internet actually functions, how digital footprints are created, and how systems communicate securely. That curiosity motivated me to learn cyber security in depth. As I explored the subject, I realized that cyber security is a field where continuous learning and problem-solving are essential, which made it even more interesting for me.

Urmil Jagat: The biggest advantage of the training was its practical approach. The four-month course felt surprisingly short because every session introduced something new and valuable.

To overcome this, I maintained detailed notes about every tool, its purpose, and the situations where it should be used. This habit made revision easier and helped me build confidence while working with different technologies.

Urmil Jagat: The biggest challenge was mastering the large number of cyber security tools introduced during the course. Each tool serves a different purpose, and understanding when and how to use them requires consistent practice. This systematic approach helped me overcome most of the difficulties.

Apart from mock interviews, I also prepared using AI tools like ChatGPT to practice role-specific interview questions and conduct self-assessment sessions. By the time I attended the actual interview, I felt well-prepared. The interview itself was mainly technical and felt more like a professional discussion where I shared my cyber security knowledge rather than a stressful examination.

Q9: How did you feel after receiving your offer letter?

Urmil Jagat: Receiving the offer letter was a wonderful experience because it validated my preparation and confirmed that I had the capability to succeed in cyber security interviews. Although I chose not to accept the offer due to personal reasons and because I wanted to pursue a more core cyber security role, receiving the offer gave me tremendous confidence for future opportunities.

Q10: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

Urmil Jagat: I see myself growing into a leadership role within cyber security. My goal is not only to help organizations strengthen their security posture but also to create awareness among individuals about cyber security best practices. I would like to become both a cyber security expert and an awareness trainer who helps others build successful careers in this field.

Q11: What advice would you give to aspiring cyber security professionals?

Urmil Jagat: My biggest advice is to follow one structured learning roadmap instead of switching between multiple roadmaps available online. Many learners start one path and then jump to another, which often leads to confusion and incomplete learning. If you choose one roadmap and complete it thoroughly, you will build a much stronger foundation. A well-designed cyber security course also helps learners explore different domains and discover which specialization suits their interests before moving into advanced learning.

Alongside VAPT, I am also interested in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) because I would like to expand my expertise into security auditing as well.

Q15: What is your final message for students who want to build a career in cyber security?

Urmil Jagat: My advice is to master your fundamentals before focusing on advanced topics. You must understand how systems, networks, and security mechanisms actually work because cyber security is driven by curiosity. If you are genuinely interested in understanding how technologies function and how vulnerabilities can be prevented, you will enjoy this field. Ethical hackers are not people who break systems for harm. Their responsibility is to identify weaknesses before malicious attackers do and help organizations close those security gaps. That is the true purpose of cyber security, and it is what makes this profession so meaningful.
